ChessVista.com is the website of chess photographer Frits Agterdenbos. The site provides the international chess community with high quality chess photos and chess news of chess players from international chess events. There will be visual reports and an album with chess photo collections showing all the visual aspects of the chess world.
15.07.2006 The 3rd Amsterdam Chess Tournament is taking place 15-23 July in the University Sport Centre in Amsterdam Buitenveldert. The 446 player Swiss tournament (9 rounds) is being held in 4 groups (A, B, C and D). The A group (Elo > 2225, first prize 3500 euro) has attracted 86 participants including 14 GMs and 22 IMs. The 2500+ players are: Tiviakov 2668, Nijboer 2598, Timman 2594, L’Ami 2586, Erenburg 2585, Ftacnik 2579, Stellwagen 2575, Al-Modiahki 2564, Tukmakov 2560, Halkias 2551, Li 2540, Vazquez Igarza 2517, Cuijpers 2510, Parker 2509 and Ernst 2504. The first round took place today, Saturday 15 July. The rounds will start at 01.00 PM except for the final round on Sunday 23 July: 11.30 AM. There will be no rest day.
The Amsterdam Chess Tournament (15-23 July) is the first of three Dutch open tournaments in a row. Second is the
Dutch Open Championship (24 July – 3 August 2006) and third is the
Hogeschool Zeeland Chess Tournament (5–12 August 2006).
Playing venue is the University Sport Centre (USC) for students of the University of Amsterdam (UvA, master level) and the Hogeschool van Amsterdam (HvA, bachelor level)
The opening ceremony in the sport centre brought a capoeira demonstration. Capoeira is a lively Brazilian martial art that combines dance, acrobatics and music with fighting techniques (see www.capoeira.com).
