3rd Amsterdam Chess Tournament: Sergey Tiviakov winner
26.07.2006 The Final Round 9 of the 3rd Amsterdam Chess Tournament was played on Sunday 23 July 11.30 AM. The crucial games were: Sergey Tiviakov drew against Lubomir Ftacnik, Friso Nijboer defeated Stelios Halkias and Erwin L’Ami lost to Sergey Erenburg. The results brought three players (Tiviakov, Erenburg and Nijboer) on a shared first place. In accordance with the tiebreak system, as published in the Tournament Regulations, the Dutch champion Sergey Tiviakov officially won the tournament, although this was not mentioned at the closing ceremony. The prize money was divided equally, as it should. Photos of final round 9.

Stelios Halkias dressed to kill. In previous rounds 7 and 8 Stelios Halkias defeated Dutch men Erwin L’Ami and Jan Timman. The Dutch fans feared for Friso Nijboer’s life. Was Halkias going to act like a real serial killer? Halkias was not. Nijboer won the game.
