Magnus Carlsen wins ticket to Monaco
12.09.2006 The NH Chess Tournament, also called the ‘Rising Star Chess Challenge’, took place 19 – 29 August in Hotel Krasnapolsky, in the centre of Amsterdam. It was a battle between an ‘Experience’ team (Ulf Andersson, Alexander Beliavsky, Artur Jussupow (Yusupov), Ljubomir Ljubojevic and John Nunn) and a 'Rising Stars' team (Magnus Carlsen, Sergey Karjakin, Jan Smeets, Daniel Stellwagen en Wang Hao). The Rising Stars won the double-rounded Scheveningen, virtually five mini-matches, 28-22. The Rising Stars players won EUR 2000 each and the Experience players won EUR 1000 each. A special prize was won by Magnus Carlsen for being the best Rising Star. He will get an invitation to play in the Amber Blindfold and Rapid Tournament in Monaco in 2007. Photo report of round 10 (29 August) by Frits Agterdenbos.
The tournament was organized by NH Hoteles and the Association Max Euwe (founded by Joop Van Oosterom).
