25+2 Champions of EU Member States
09.01.2007 On 1 January 2007, Bulgaria and Romania joined the European Union. By now the EU has 27 Member States. The EU's population has increased from 463 million people to 493 million. The EU’s economy has grown to EUR 10.9 trillion (the biggest single market in the world). The enlargement will go on. Croatia, Turkey and the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia have been granted the status of a candidate country.
This ChessVista report surveys the chess champions of all 25 EU Member States in 2006, plus the 2 champions of Bulgaria and Romania in 2006. The champions list includes Colin Pace, Paris Klerides, Francisco Vallejo Pons and one woman: Eva Moser.
