The Chinese New Year generally begins on the day of the second New Moon after the Winter Solstice, which was in 2006 on 22 December. In a 12-year cycle, each year is represented by an animal, in order: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Sheep (or Goat), Monkey, Rooster, Dog and Pig (or Boar). So everybody is an animal.
