Corus Chess 2008 Round 1
12.01.2008 Round 1 was played on Saturday 12 January 01.30 PM. In group A the Big Three didn’t do well. Viswanathan Anand lost to Teymour Radjabov and Veselin Topalov lost to Levon Aronian. Vladimir Kramnik – Loek Van Wely was a draw. Magnus Carlsen defeated Shakhryar Mamedyarov. In Group B Ivan Cheparinov defeated Wouter Spoelman and Etienne Bacrot defeated Yifan Hou. In group C no game ended in a draw. The three ladies lost their games: Anna Ushenina – John Van Der Wiel 0-1, Shilong Li - Irina Krush 1-0 and Zhaoqin Peng – Fabiano Caruana 0-1. The Dutch squadron (11 players, in 2007 there were 14) scored plus 1: 0.5/1 in A + 2.5/4 in B + 3.0/6 in C = 6.0/11. Photo report by Frits Agterdenbos.
