Corus Chess 2008 Round 2
13.01.2008 Round 2 was played on Sunday 13 January. It definitely was a good day for the white pieces (nine wins). In group A Levon Aronian defeated Boris Gelfand. Aronian said at the press conference his victory over Gelfand was the first time in his life. Magnus Carlsen defeated Pavel Eljanov. The other games ended in a draw. Aronian and Carlsen lead on 2.0 points. In Group B six players share the lead on 1.5 points. In group C only two games ended in a draw. Pontus Carlsson (fever 40.0) made a quick draw versus Zhaoqin Peng. Li, Caruana, Braun and Van Der Wiel lead on 2.0 points. The Dutch squadron (11 players) scored minus 4: 0.5/1 in A + 1.0/4 in B + 2.0/6 in C = 3.5/11. Photo report by Frits Agterdenbos.

The 0708 Mystery.
Did ChessVista solve the mystery of the ‘0708’ on the Corus Chess 2008 billboard?
This year’s tournament is the 70th edition, in 2008.
So 70 in 2008, or 70 in 08, makes 0 70 8, makes 0708.
