17.01.2008 Round 5 was played on Thursday 17 January. Veselin Topalov defeated Boris Gelfand and Shakhryar Mamedyarov defeated Loek Van Wely. Teymour Radjabov (by defeating Pavel Eljanov) joined the lead with Magnus Carlsen and Levon Aronian who both drew their games. In Group B Etienne Bacrot defeated Jan Smeets to take the sole lead with 4.0 points. Pentala Harikrishna is second on 3.5 points after a draw versus Sergey Movsesian, who is now on 3.0 points, together with the Dutch GMs Daniel Stellwagen, Erwin L’Ami and Jan Smeets. Wouter Spoelman scored his first half versus Yifan Hou. In group C Arik Braun lost his first half by drawing versus Dennis Ruijgrok who scored his first half in the tournament. Arik Braun is leading with 4.5 points, followed by Fabiano Caruana (4.0 points) and Dimitri Reinderman (3.5 points). Photo report by Frits Agterdenbos.
