Corus Chess 2008 Round 8

20.01.2008 Round 8 was played on Sunday 20 January. It was the day of a remarkable incident in Group B. Cheparinov refused to shake hands with Short. The Bulgarian saw his game declared a loss by the chief arbiter, but later the Appeals Committee decided the game will be played Monday 21 January. In Group A the big clash Anand vs Topalov was won by the world champion. The other games were all draws. Carlsen leads with 5.5 points, followed by Kramnik and Aronian with 5.0 points. In Group B Movsesian defeated Spoelman and Krasenkow defeated Sargissian. No matter the result of Short vs Cheparinov, Movsesian will lead with 6.0 points, since Bacrot made a draw. In Group C all games were decisive. Caruana defeated Braun to take sole lead with 6.0 points, followed by Reinderman (5.5 points) who defeated Li. In the Honorary Group both games ended in a draw. Big photo report by Frits Agterdenbos.
