Ikonnikov wins Aalsmeer Open Championship 2008
16.02.2008 The Aalsmeer Open Championship 2008 (Open Schaak Kampioenschap Aalsmeer 2008) took place on Saturday 16 February 2008 in Aalsmeer (Netherlands). The Rabobank sponsored the event. The tournament (Group A, main group) was won by GM Vyacheslav Ikonnikov with 6.5/7 points. IM Robert Ris finished second with 6.0 points and Tex De Wit finished third with 5.0 points. The tournament, which was a 7 rounds Swiss Rapid (20 minutes per player), was organized by Chess Club Aalsmeer (Schaakcub Aalsmeer). Zhaoqin Peng vs Vyacheslav Ikonnikov.
At first sight there is nothing special about the situation.

As a matter of fact the two GMs didn’t notice the fault when they started the game.
But then they do notice. The GMs agree to correct the position and they play on.
