Ilmars Starostits wins Ichthus College Tournament
07.03.2008 The first Ichthus College Tournament (29 February – 2 March 2008) in Driehuis (Netherlands) was won by Latvian IM Ilmars Starostits (elo 2500) and 16 year old Dutch junior Yorick Ten Hagen with 5.5/6 points. Starostits won the cup having a better Buchholz score. The Ichthus College Tournament was a weekend tournament, 6 rounds Swiss 40 moves / 105 minutes + 15 minutes to finish the game. Prize money: 700 (first prize), 400, 250, 150 and 100 euro. The tournament, which attracted 69 participants, was organized by chess club Santpoort. Starostits takes fifth place after Miezis, Kengis, Meijers and Sveshnikov (FIDE Rating List January 2008, Country Top players list Latvia). Frits Agterdenbos photographed round 3 on 1 March.
