Draughts Championship for the Visually Impaired
17.04.2008 The 41th Dutch Draughts Championship for the Visually Impaired 2008 (in Dutch: Nederlands Kampioenschap Dammen voor Visueel Gehandicapten 2008) took place 9-13 April in Hilversum Media Park, Netherlands. The tournament was organized as a side event alongside the Dutch Chess Championships. ‘Visually impaired’ doesn't necessarily mean ‘blind’, it could mean being blind or having impaired vision. The championship was a 6 player Round Robin, followed by play-offs (2 rounds). The final standings are: 1.Herman Lamberts (champion); 2.Erik Essing; 3.Frans van Hek; 4.Marcel Zandbergen; 5.Peter Kers; 6.Roland van Ekeren. Herman Lamberts, 74 year old, won the title for the fifth time (2001, 2003, 2004, 2006 and 2008). Frits Agterdenbos photographed the play-offs, round 2, on 13 April.
