Anish Giri (13) wins Intomart GfK Open 2008

17.04.2008 The Intomart GfK Open (5-13 April 2008) in Hilversum Media Park, Netherlands, was won by 13 year old Anish Giri, who made his first GM norm. Giri is a Russian player currently living in the Netherlands. FM Anish Giri and GM Mikheil Mchedlishvili of Georgia finished on 7.0 points, but the junior had a better Buchholz score. Erik Van Den Doel, Daniel Fridman, Alexandre Dgebuadze, Boris Chatabashev, John Van Der Wiel and Simon Ansell shared the third place. Dutch junior Roi Miedema made an IM norm. The tournament attracted 79 participants (including 7 GMs and 7 IMs) in the main group (Group A) plus 48 participants in the second group (Elo < 1900). The second group (Group B) was won by André Van Dinteren. The Intomart GfK Open, which is in fact the third edition of the HSG Open, is a 9 rounds Swiss tournament, 9 days, no rest days.
