20.02.2009 Robin Van Kampen and Ilan Manor have won the Batavia Amsterdam Schaaktoernooi (Batavia Amsterdam Chess Tournament). The final round (round 9) was played on Friday 20 February in Cafe Batavia 1920, in Amsterdam. Dutch junior Robin Van Kampen (14 year old) made his first IM norm, by defeating Yochanan Afek. Henk Vedder failed to make his final IM norm. He was on a promising track with 5.0/7 points, needing just one more point, but lost both his games in the final two rounds. Taco Vrenegoor was the third Dutchman who needed a win to make an IM norm, but he drew with Merijn Van Delft. Arlette Van Weersel won a fine final round game against Tibor Karolyi.
Final standings: 1. Robin Van Kampen and Ilan Manor (6.0), 3. Merijn Van Delft and Taco Vrenegoor (5.5), 5. Henk Vedder (5.0), 6. Tibor Karolyi (4.5), 7. Stefan Kuipers (4.0), 8. Yochanan Afek (3.5), 9. Arlette Van Weersel (3.0) and 10. Michael Karp (2.0). Report, with photos of 15 February, by Frits Agterdenbos.
