Hypercube Blitz 2009: Andrey Orlov wins
22.03.2009 The Hypercube Blitz Chess Tournament 2009 was won by Andrey Orlov. The tournament (rate of play: 5 minutes per person per game) took place on Saturday 21 March in Utrecht, the Netherlands. The event was organised by Chess Club Utrecht and sponsored by Hypercube Business Innovation. The tournament attracted 127 participants including 7 GMs and 12 IMs. The first part of the tournament was the qualification phase in which the participants were divided in 8 qualifying groups (all play all) to qualify for the 8 final groups in the second part of the tournament, the final phase. Final group A was won by Andrey Orlov with 15.0/19 points (1000 euro), followed by Bogdan Lalic and Vladimir Epishin with 14.5 points. Group B was won by Alexandre Danin and group C by Tim Lammens.
