Science Park Amsterdam Chess Tournament
17.07.2011 Dusan Popovic has won the new chess tournament in Amsterdam, Netherlands: the Science Park Amsterdam Chess Tournament, which took place 9-17 July 2011. The well-organized tournament will get a second edition in 2012. Main sponsor of the tournament was Science Park Amsterdam. GM Dusan Popovic, IM Roeland Pruijssers (GM norm!), GM Aleksandr Lenderman, GM Nikola Sedlak and GM Adhiban Baskaran all finished on 7.0/9 points in Group A (elo>2050, 77 participants), after which Popovic was declared tournament winner on the best tie-break score. FM Matthew Tan (IM norm!) finished on spot 6 with 6.5 points, followed by GM Stewart Haslinger, GM Joshua Friedel, FM Floris Van Assendelft, GM Valeriy Neverov and GM Friso Nijboer with 6.0 points. Group B (elo 1800-2100, 84 participants) was won by Jan Cheung (7.5 points), half a point ahead of three players including tournament chairman Jeroen Van Den Berg (of Tata Steel Chess, Wijk aan Zee). Group C (elo 1550-1850, 84 participants) was won by Sereyo Bekkink and Huub Van Den Bergh. Group D (elo<1600, 46 participants) was won by Veron Roesink. Aart Strik was both tournament director and chief arbiter. Round 7 (15 July) photo impression by Frits Agterdenbos.
