ChessVista.com is the website of chess photographer Frits Agterdenbos. The site provides the international chess community with high quality chess photos and chess news of chess players from international chess events. There will be visual reports and an album with chess photo collections showing all the visual aspects of the chess world.
24.01.2012 Round 9 of Tata Steel Chess 2012 took place on Tuesday 24 January.
Group A: The upset of the day was Magnus Carlsen’s loss to Sergey Karjakin. Levon Aronian took maximum profit by defeating Fabiano Caruana taking sole lead (6.5/9) with a full point margin. Magnus Carlsen, Vassily Ivanchuk (who won against Holland’s hope Anish Giri), and Teimour Radjabov (draw with black against Gata Kamsky) share second place with 5.5 points. Hikaru Nakamura is fifth with 5.0 points.
Group B: Pentala Harikrishna won against Illya Nyzhnyk and remains sole leader (7.0 points). Three players share second place with 6.0 points: Lazaro Bruzon (who defeated Vladimir Potkin), Erwin L’Ami (who defeated Harika Dronavalli) and Alexander Motylev. Illya Nyzhnyk and Sergey Tiviakov (who won against Dimitri Reinderman) share fifth place.
